By the end of the eighties, quality control as part of operational management became a new business tool in the Netherlands. For me, it was a great opportunity to change the way our family business was led. I transformed the top down leadership structure into a more democratic bottom up organization. This leadership style fitted me like a glove, though my staff had a hard time getting used to the idea that from hereon their opinion really mattered. Because of these changes, we became ISO 9002 certified in 1992.

I also relocated the company from the old city center of Amsterdam to a modern business center on the outskirts of the city. My father wanted to keep the former location on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal open and he stayed on working there part-time, assisted by a couple of technicians who serviced our clients in the inner-city, i.e. the University of Amsterdam, City Hall/Music Theater en several municipal divisions.
